Goodbye BThrifty Family,

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to you today. Our hand has been forced by the corporate powers that be (in this case Comcast Spotlight) and we will no longer be able to bring you the savings and discounts you have come to love and expect from the local merchants in your area.

As you know, BThrifty had put together a one-of-a-kind multi-media advertising system for local businesses and franchises. At the very heart of this system was co-op cable television commercials for small businesses who otherwise couldn’t afford to brand their businesses on TV. Beyond this, these commercials served to spread awareness of exactly which businesses were currently in the BThrifty savings network and notify you of what discounts to expect at the www.bthrifty.com coupon mall.   They were a vital part of a synergistic program which also included the BGreen Savings Card, Savings Alert Email Blasts, RSS Coupon Feeds, Google® Adwords, & the BThrifty Smart Shopper Magazine.

Our mission was to brand BThrifty and our online discounts, offers, and coupons, thereby reconnecting the local consumer (you) to the local merchants, and enhancing the image of independent businesses in our local community. In an effort to be environmentally responsible many of you had signed up for our “BGreen Card” - a paperless coupon card that eliminated the waste associated with printed coupons. We encouraged environmental responsibility and chose to lead by example. Digital delivery of advertising (TV/Web) was at the core of our program. Our website was even hosted on solar powered servers.

What was present then and has remained to this day is a belief in this community and the people who make it what it has become and what it will be. We part in sorrow because we know so much lies ahead. We hope you will remember what we were building and continue to put your best foot forward to support your local community businesses and the environment.

Farewell – and thank YOU for making BThrifty what it was!

I think that monopolies are part of the problem with America. There shouldn't be just one of every kind of business. Imagine only one burger joint, only one pizza place, or only one pharmacy. It allows businesses to become lazy and supply their customers with sub-par service at ridiculous rates because the only other alternative is to go without. Thankfully we have Dish Network and don't deal with Comcast anymore.

This country was formed on Free Enterprize and with in the past few years, hundreds of years have gone down the drain. This is a sad era in our country, and it sure seems like a dictatorship is in the works, one way or the other. Monoplys are deffinitely un- American, and they should be ALL broken up.

This sucks. I'm sick and tired of monopolies. They get richer while we get poorer. As far as Comcast - There selection is lousy, and they prices keep going up. Good luck BThirfy. I hope you find another market.

I have no idea how Comcast has gotten away with this monopoly for so long. Aren't there Monoploy laws out there?! If I could I would switch to AT&T or COX in a heartbeat. Comcast needs to be investigated!

Re: What should be done about the monopoly the cable systems have in their geographies?

Any type of monopoly on any market is wrong & should be stopped. In my experience as well well as my opinion, it truly does foster bad business. Prices become fixed because there are no or fewer options. There is less innovation, less change, and I personally don't ever like to feel as though I don't have a choice. America was built on the freedom to choose & I personally not only expect that freedom to choose, i cherish it. Corporate conglomerates are making a comeback in many arenas. Look at what happened with the Bells how many years ago? Well, from the looks of it, they to are making a come back (AT&T) I saw in an above post about laws in regards to that & yes there are. I believe it is a few laws clumped together to form the called the Anti-Trust Law. (I am not 100% certain on tyhe exact name) Good Luck BThrifty!
